WE HAVE ARRIVED!
Smooth flights, no delays (at least of the airline kind), and Kathy was there to meet us at the airport! Note for future delegations--expired over-the-counter medications are not allowed into the country so, to avoid delays at immigration, don't bring them. Oops. The immigration delay changed our itinerary slightly as we no longer had time to visit the museum. However, it meant that we had plenty of time for a wonderful lunch and fellowship. I enjoyed my first pupusas and they were delicious! We then arrived in San Salvador proper, had a few errands to run (Office Depot in El Salvador looks like an Office Depot in the US - and there's so much to talk about there regarding commercialization, globalization, etc., but we can leave that for another day), and then arrived at the guest house for the night. Supper was right next door to the guest house - so not a long walk - and we had variety around the table. I went with the fried fish (yes, it came with the head attached), others had rabbit, pork, eggs, and much more. There were only crumbs left so that tells you it must have been good. Now, back at the guest house for the night to rest up for another full day tomorrow. The first part of the day we will still be in San Salvador and then will head out to Berlin in the early afternoon. If you want to follow along, our itinerary is here. Until tomorrow-- Jessica

We leave in the morning - 5:30 a.m. flight out of Des Moines to Atlanta and then on to San Salvador. I'm hoping we'll be able to update this page each day with what we've been up, where we've gone, and perhaps even a few photos.
Tonight is for all the last minute things - hoping I remembered everything is the main thing. Of course since I'm already in Des Moines, at this point, it's almost a moot point. :-) Here's to the upcoming week, the adventure, and all the new experiences. Jessica |
